Official Opening of Three New Advanced Engineering Research Centres
6 August 2018
We cordially invite you to the official opening of three new advanced engineering research centres by Jake Berry MP, Minister for the Northern Powerhouse.
The three new centres, which sit at the heart of our Advanced Manufacturing Campus, will expand on our region's manufacturing and digital strengths and support the government’s Industrial Strategy to drive faster accessibility of these benefits for industry.
-
Integrated Civil and Infrastructure Research Centre (ICAIR)
A uniquely powerful experimental facility for investigating both underground and above ground infrastructure, using data, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing techniques to increase productivity in the design, construction and operation of civil infrastructure. ICAIR proudly hosts the UKCRIC National Distributed Water Infrastructure Facility.
-
Laboratory for Verification and Validation
A world-leading acoustics and vibration testing facility that offers the opportunity to dynamically test substantial structures, sub-structures and components under real-world environmental conditions. The facility ultimately enables the production of lighter, safer and more efficient products for a range of industrial sectors, including energy, aerospace, automotive and civil engineering.
-
Royce Translational Centre
One of the prestigious Henry Royce Institute centres, accelerating the benefits to industry in the field of Advanced Metals Processing, including: lightweight solutions for transport, new steels for nuclear, net shape aerospace components and materials tailored for orthopaedic applications.
The three research centres have been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, including funds received as part of the Henry Royce Institute and UK Collaboratorium for Research on Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC) programmes.
Event details, including tour and demonstration timings, will be emailed out shortly with the opportunity to register your attendance.
In the meantime, please save the date in your calendar and, if you have any questions, please email engevents@sheffield.ac.uk
